The SmartArx Icon 8 is an 8-zone wireless alarm panel built for homes and smaller commercial properties that need smart, app-connected security without the complexity of a large-scale system. It runs on 4G GSM or Ethernet communication, supports the full SmartArx 868 MHz wireless range, and is configured live via SmartArx Configuration Software. Here’s what you need to know.
1. Eight wireless zones, fully programmable
The Icon 8 supports eight wireless zones, each independently configured for zone name, trigger type, partition assignment, and active alarm modes. Trigger options are instant, delay, 24-hour, and panic. “Instant” sounds the siren the moment a zone trips in any armed state, while “delay” gives you time to disarm before the siren activates. “24-hour” triggers regardless of armed state. Each zone can be set active in Away, Stay, or Monitor mode, or any combination thereof.
2. Two independent partitions
The panel supports two independent partitions, so a single installation can cover two separate areas (a house and a flat, or a front-of-house and a back-of-house), with each partition armed and disarmed independently. Six user profiles can be configured per panel, each with a 4- or 6-digit password, a username, partition access, day-and-time permissions, and individual mode rights covering Off, Away, Stay, Monitor, Programming, and Zone Bypass.
3. GSM or Ethernet communication. It’s your choice
The Icon 8 accepts a choice of communication modules: either the SmartArx 4G GSM Module or the SmartArx Ethernet Module, both sold separately. The GSM module uses a micro SIM card with data or airtime pre-loaded. The Ethernet module connects directly to your router. Either way, the panel sends messages to up to six cell-number recipients via the SmartArx app or SMS, including alarm events, zone triggers, mains and battery status, and tamper alerts. Each is configurable per recipient and per partition.
4. 868 MHz wireless peripherals
The Icon 8 connects to the SmartArx 868 MHz wireless range via the 868 MHz Transceiver on the Comms Bus. Compatible devices include:
- SmartArx 868 MHz Wireless Passive (PIR): 12-metre detection range, 108-degree field of view, two-way communication, supervision reporting every 15 minutes, sleep mode when disarmed
- SmartArx 868 MHz Wireless Door Contact (Door Guard): always-on monitoring, panic button, input and output terminals for connecting third-party devices like beams or gate motors, app-controllable output for gates and automated garage doors
- SmartArx 6-Button Keyring Remote: two-way, fully programmable, released 2024/2025
All 868 MHz devices report supervision status to the panel every 15 minutes. If a device stops reporting, the panel flags it within an hour.
5. Legacy 433 MHz devices are also supported
The Icon 8 has an onboard 433 MHz receiver for backward compatibility with older wireless devices. Compatible remotes include the SmartArx 3-Button Remote, the Sherlotronics 4- or 6-Button Remote, and the Sentry 3-Button Remote. Legacy SmartArx E6 and E45 passives and door contacts are also supported. Legacy devices use 6V batteries available directly from SmartArx distributors.
6. Programmable inputs and outputs
The panel has two programmable auxiliary inputs and three programmable auxiliary outputs, each independently configurable. Input functions include Panic, Keycom, and Digital High/Low. Output functions cover alarm trigger, system armed status, mains status, battery low, panic, silent panic, custom app commands, and Away/Stay/Monitor buzzer mimicking. There are also four wireless auxiliary outputs for controlling 868 MHz Door Guard devices directly from the SmartArx app, which is useful for gates, garage doors, or any automated access point.
7. Auto arm/disarm and a 1,000-event log
Four selectable auto arm/disarm schedules let you set the panel to activate and deactivate Away, Stay, or Monitor mode at specified times on specified days, per partition. The panel keeps a 1,000-event log covering alarm modes, zone activity, mains and battery events, and tamper alerts. When connected to the SmartArx Configuration Software via USB, the live status dashboard shows partition status, output states, aux input levels, wireless zone signal strength, battery voltage, and communication module status. Walk test mode confirms every device is registering correctly before the system goes live.
8. Configured live via the SmartArx Configuration Software
Installers connect to the Icon 8 via USB using the SmartArx Configuration Software. The software auto-detects the panel on connection and downloads all current settings immediately. Programming changes take effect live, with nothing queued for upload. Once complete, the configuration file can be saved for future use or restoration.
